 Principles of Release

"WOW," says it all. The intuitive approach of touch and response. The concept of defined touch, Less is More. Reading and connecting touch and types of response. Feel, brace and yielding. The principle of non-resistance. The principle of release of tension in a joint or junction. Survival instinct and equine language. It all adds up to a very powerful connection between practitioner and horse. Further…

  1. First Principle of Release: If you bring a horse’s awareness to an area that is holding pain or tension in a way that he can’t brace against it, his body will begin to release it. That is why Less is More with this method. If I can get movement in an area that is holding pain or tension in a way that the horse cannot brace against it (i.e. in a relaxed state), then the horse’s body will further release it.

  2. Second Principle of Release: Asking for movement in a relaxed state, or moving a joint or junction through a range of motion in a relaxed state, releases tension in the connective tissue of that joint or junction. When you run into resistance and soften, the horse will release the pain or tension that is causing that resistance. One reason this method works so well is because of the horse’s incredible awareness and sensitivity to outside stimuli. This is how he survives. Working with this sensitivity you can access a level of the horse’s nervous system that enables him to release deep stress in his muscles, connective tissue and structure.
